West End Alexandria - Did You Know? The New Inova Alexandria Hospital Campus | Project Update - January 2025

The new Inova Alexandria Hospital Campus located at the WestEnd Alexandria project started construction in Fall 2024, with groundbreaking on September 30th.


The first construction crane was installed in mid-December 2024, with four more cranes to be installed by the end of March 2025. Excavation at the Site is 75% complete, with the dig finished by April 2025. The Final Site Plan has been approved by the City of Alexandria. For more details, check out the video.



The Campus will include:


  • a 192 All Private Bed Hospital, with a Level 2 Trauma Center (1 of 3 in NoVA);

  • a Comprehensive Cancer Care Center; &

  • a Specialty Care Center.


Inova is making a $1 Billion investment in the Campus, which will be the Flagship of its Northern Virginia presence. 2000 employees are expected at the Campus.


The Hospital Campus is scheduled for a 3rd or 4th Quarter 2028 opening.


Excavation is 75% complete with the dig to be completed by March 2025. The first of five construction cranes was installed in mid-December 2024, with the remaining cranes installed by April 2025.

  • On December 22, 2020, the City of Alexandria announced the plan to redevelop Landmark Mall, with Inova as the anchor client and Foulger-Pratt as the local developer.

  • On February 2, 2022, Foulger-Pratt announced that the name of the redevelopment project will be "WestEnd Alexandria."

  • WestEnd Alexandria is designed to be a community gathering place for Alexandria's West End, with residential, retail, and restaurants, 3.5 acres of public parks, a minimum of 25% open space for each block, a transit hub, and a new fire station.​

  • ​This development project is one of the largest projects located Inside the Beltway & in all of Northern Virginia, at $1+ Billion for the non-hospital portion and $2.2 Billion for the entire site.

  • The non-hospital buildings (5 condo buildings for rental on 4 city blocks with ground floor retail along a central Plaza) will be ready for occupancy by early 2026.

  • Horizontal infrastructure (i.e., below ground, streets, road access, etc.) started in Fall 2022.

  • Vertical infrastructure will begin in first half of 2025
