Landmark Overlook in West End Alexandria. What is it? What will it become?
The 8.2 acre site located across Duke Street from the WestEnd Alexandria development project will become a residential project with commercial/retail elements. The project site is bounded by Duke, S. Walker, Stevenson, & S. Whiting.
For those familiar with this part of West End Alexandria, this site used to be occupied by Big Lots, Dunya banquet hall, Alley Cat restaurant, and a medical office building.
The project will have 88 2-over-2 condos and two 7-story multi-family condo buildings with 362 units.
Landmark Overlook will have 5 blocks, with 2 new public streets and a 1/4 acre public park.
The project is expected to have ground floor commercial/retail in the condos building(s). The back right parcel (fronting Duke Street) is reserved for a medical office building and/or a hotel.
Phase 1 will be construction of the 2-over-2 condos.
Phase 2 will be construction of the condo buildings.
Phases 3 & 4 will be construction of commercial/retail on reserved parcel.
Demolition started in late-December 2024. As of today, the Big Lots and Dunya buildings are demolished, with Alley Cat nearly gone.
At present, there is not a publicly-available timeline for construction and completion of this project. Once I learn this information, I will share another update.
